The Simulation Education Specialist executes responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care as it relates to clinical simulation education and training. The Simulation Education Specialist will be responsible for the coordination and management of simulation training within the medical center. The RN demonstrates performance and leadership to improve the care for Veterans by leading learners. Interacts with and is involved in the use of technology ranging from low fidelity standardized patient simulators, anatomic models, and task trainers to extreme high fidelity human simulators and virtual reality programs. The RN is responsible for providing advice as appropriate and assistance in the implementation of clinical simulation curricula; coordinates educational program/project activities such as meetings, conferences, information gathering for various aspects of the program/project as appropriate and relates to courses; planning, promoting and developing educational design strategies for clinical simulation programs, and conducting clinical simulation training and education in support of the Simulation Center curricula. The Nurse III registered nurse demonstrates:
 
· Leading and organizing delivery of large health care system training and education (especially clinical simulation training) to ensure system wide adherence to established protocols, including system wide documentation of training;
· Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes of training;
· Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities;
· Systematically evaluating current practice, and assisting Simulation Center staff with formulating plans for the evaluation of outcomes for groups of learners, (patients as needed) and/or health care systems within the scope of the Simulation Center program; and
· Using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.
 
Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of experience conducting clinical simulation training and in developing educational program courses in simulation. Master's degree or higher in nursing or related field; five or more years of experience in clinical practice, leadership, adult education, public speaking and program development. Recent VA clinical experience is highly desirable, but not required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
· U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
· Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
· Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
· The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook xxxx, Appendix G6)
· Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
· Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
